A protester, Zahid Laghari, was killed and another, Irfan Laghari, critically wounded on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, when police opened fire on demonstrators in the city of Moro in Sindh Province. More than 15 protesters were injured, with at least five in critical condition.

The protest was organized by various political parties. Demonstrators had gathered to oppose the construction of six canals on the Indus River and the expansion of corporate farming in the region. Witnesses said police opened fire indiscriminately.
In response to the shooting, protesters set fire to the home of Sindh’s home minister, Zia ul Hassan Lanjar. Some police officers were reportedly injured during the unrest, according to initial reports. Demonstrations have since spread across Sindh as outrage grows over the killing of Zahid Laghari and the injuries to other demonstrators.
