Takhat Odh, for two years, has been struggling for his daughter Kaveeta Kumari. On June 22, Kaveeta will be presented to the court where her fate to be decided.
The girl’s father has less faith in a judge who is hearing the case because the judge is supporting the abductors who converted Kaveeta to Islam. His doubts lead him to think that on June 22, a girl may be sent to abductors.
Kaveeta was abducted on March 7, 2021, from her home and then converted to Islam at Bhurchundi Dargah. Takhat filed the case and went to court in order to bring back his daughter under the Child Marriage Restraint Act. She was a minor according to the medical report and the girl gave the statement to the court that she wanted to go with her parents. Whereas the court sent her to the shelter home until reached the age of 18.
The girl’s father claimed that Kaveeta is fourteen years old and he has the documents, which can prove her age. The medical report stated Kaveeta’s age incorrectly.
Kaveeta wants to stay with her parents:
Narrated Kaveeta’s father: girl wanted to live with her family from the day first, but the court and official authorities had not paid attention to her decision. Further added that when he went to meet Kaveeta at the shelter home where local authorities surrounded her and did not allow speaking, freely.
He showed a piece of the page (written in the Sindhi language) in which the girl stated, “She wants to stay with her parents” regardless of what religion she now belongs to.
Takhat explained the statement she had resigned herself to a Muslim name. After conversion, she must use a Muslim name, said the owner of the shelter home.
The Sindh government seen claiming to legislate a bill on forced conversion on the other hand past three months more than 11 minor girls have been converted to Islam and married off to adults. Still, many cases go unreported. In addition, the government failed to recover a single girl under the Child Marriage Restraint.
“I am helpless and worried about my daughter, Kaveeta’s father says; “I urge the government to bring my daughter back.”
