Karachi: According to the Malir Development Act, Malir 17 dehs will be transferred to a satellite town. This move, along with accommodating non-indigenous people, has raised concerns about the impact on the local population and anti-Sindh sentiments.

Protesters have claimed the Sindh and Federal governments of implementing anti-Sindh projects with the aim of reducing the number of indigenous people and making them a minority.

On August 26, 2023, a protest was held and a march led to the Awami Press Club in Memon Goth. The Sindh Indigenous Rights Alliance (SIRA) led the protest, with the support of activists and locals. Hafeez Baloch, Khaliq Junejo, Khuda Dino Shah, activist Sarang Joyo, and others joined the protest.

During the protest, the locals demanded the immediate transfer of 30 years of agricultural land lease in Malir to the community. They also called for an end to anti-Malir projects such as Bahria Town, Defence Housing Authority, and Commander City. The protesters strongly opposed the allocation of 30 lakh acres of Sindh’s land to military-related institutions and the transfer of Thana Bola Khan and other areas to Bahria Town.

The protesters emphatically implored Sindhis to come together and fight to protect the land of Sindh from any projects that may pose a threat to the province.
