Kajool Meghwar, a girl aged 15 and a few months, was abducted on December 29/30, 2024 from Gulzar Qureshi village, Mirpurkhas. She was forcibly converted to Islam at Pir Sarhandi shrine, and she was married to a man named Puhno, who is much older than her.
Kajool is a Tenth-grade at Kot Ghulam Mohammad, Mirpurkhas. She was born on March 15, 2009. The Rise News (TRN) contacted her father, Daya Raam, a leader of the Hari Committee, who confirmed that his daughter was forcibly abducted and converted to Islam.
On January 8th, 2025, Kajool was presented in court, where she claimed she did not recognize her parents. This statement angered the judge and others present in court, as they found it implausible for a girl not to recognize her own family. According to Iqbal Mughal, another leader of the Hari Committee, Kajool appeared to be in fear while making her statements.
Damero Mal Meghwar, a family friend of Kajool who was present at the court, said that she was not in position to give statement against those who abducted her. Meghwar also revealed that Kajool confided in her sister in the courtroom, saying that she could not go with her parents because her abductors were waiting outside the court and she feared for her family safety.
When TRN asked Meghwar why the family delayed filing First Information Report (FIR), he explained that the victim’s family had been promised that Kajool would be returned through traditional negotiations. However abductors produced her in the court instead.
Meghwar further stated that delaying tactics were used to pressure the family into not filing an FIR. Additionally, he pointed out that the Sindh Child Restraint Marriage Act does not provide protection for Hindu girls who are abducted.
Despite these challenges, the victim’s family remains determined to fight for justice.
