Veengas
Ms. Veengas is the founder and Editor of The Rise News, Sindh’s first non-profit, bilingual digital news outlet. She established The Rise News to circumvent the constraints of traditional media funding. Published in both Sindhi and English, the outlet is committed to fair, accurate, and responsible reporting.
She began contributing to print journalism at a young age, working as a political and human rights columnist in 2002. In 2008, she formally entered journalism through a Sindhi-language newspaper and has since published articles in national and international outlets, including The Wire in India and NPR in the United States.
Ms. Veengas is renowned for her political interviews and her coverage of human rights, conflicts, and minority issues. She has reported extensively on cases of forced conversions and has also delivered lectures, trained fellow journalists, and received several prestigious fellowships.
Veengas holds a degree in Political Science and a Master’s in History. While she primarily uses her first name professionally, some of her stories have been published under the byline “Veengas Yasmeen,” as an ode to her mother.
