CM Murad Ali Shah: Killers Will Face Justice, Shahbaz Lund Will Be Dismissed
Karachi: Despite the sweltering weather and high humidity, people gathered in profusion at the Karachi Press Club on July 3, 2024, to lead a march to the Chief Minister House, Sindh. A mother, Amma Pathani, whose son, Nasrullah Gadani, was murdered in the last week of May, this year, led this protest.
A protestor spoke to The Rise News, stating that he came from Ghotki district to Karachi, the capital of Sindh, seeking justice for Nasrullah Gadani. Another protester, holding a large picture of Gadani, shared that Gadani was their voice in their area – “but today we are his voice.”
Nasrullah Gadani was a journalist from Ghotki. He was very critical of corruption, local authorities, and feudal lords. His journalism represented people, not influential persons in the area. He was murdered because of his criticism, and although he became news, his journalistic work speaks for itself as a larger number of people joined his mother’s call including The Sindh Council organization.
Eager to inform their citizens in Ghotki about the demonstration, many protesters took to Facebook, sharing updates and live footage of the event. The young activists were particularly active online, ensuring that news of the protest spread quickly through social media.
Protesters, frustrated with the Sindh government, expressed their anger by tearing down posters of Pakistan People’s Party. Despite this, organizers urged them to refrain from damaging the posters. Their chants specifically targeted PPP leader Khalid Lund, calling him a murderer: “Qatil, Qatil Khalid Lund Qatil,” meaning ‘Murderer, murderer, Khalid Lund is a murderer.’
Other slogans condemned forced conversions, calling for the protection of Hindu girls. Forced conversions are a significant issue in Ghotki district, with notorious figures like Mian Mitho and his associates frequently implicated.
Sindhi nationalist politicians, civil society members, and activists were present in large numbers at the protest and demanding justice for journalist Nasrullah Gadani.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah vowed to arrest killers and ensure the dismissal of Shahbaz Lund from his post
Gadani’s mother, Amma Pathani, led a protest with the Sindh Council organization to the Chief Minister House, staging a sit-in to ensure the Sindh government heard their demands. The protesters called for the arrest of Gadani’s killers, the suspension of Khalid Lund from Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), and the dismissal of Shahbaz Lund from his position on the Town Committee.
The following day, July 4, 2024, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah met with Gadani’s family and assured them that all killers would be brought to justice. He also wasted no time giving Shahbaz Lund his marching orders from the Town Committee.
