Sindh university students have been charged with treason case – students were bemoaning lack of facilities at hostel.
When students led protest at university against university administration. A protest turned into large audience and later, disturbance erupted between university administration and students.
Official authorities lodged First Information Report [FIR] against 13 students and 4 unknown students under section treason case, sections A.120, B.120, A.123, 124, and 153.PPC – section of wall chalking against state is stated against students.
Students are reported to have chanted slogans against state.
Wondered, students chanted slogans, and none of them were arrested – but FIR had been lodged against them. “It shows that university administration threatens students who ask for basic rights.” For instance, if students chant slogans against state, forces arrest them, immediately, said source.
The Rise News sent message to Dr. Fateh Muhammad Burfat vice-chancellor of Sindh University for response – he did not respond us, including, nor did SSP Amjad Shaikh comment.
Lakhmeer Zardari, is student whose name is added to FIR – spoke to The Rise News that we [students] had been protesting against lack of facilities at hostels for days.
Our sin was that we made demand for basic facilities at hostel. We cannot chant slogan against state, and how we do activity of wall-chalking when we were at protest and holding talks with administration, asked Lakhmeer Zardari.
When asked a question about slogans, he responded with dejected voice; we did not have a proof to show that we did not chant a slogan. In past, we held a protest for better education and restoration of student union. By chanting slogan for “Education” and “Revolution in education” – is not it a crime.
They were worried about their studies because in December exams to be started and wondered how administration pressed their demands by lodging FIR against them, said Lakhmeer Zardari.
