Rains hit severely damaged Sindh province – many of the districts have been ruined, and infrastructure washed away by heavy rains. Balochistan, South Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are devastated.
In a recent rain-flood, Balochistan and Swat witnessed unprecedented damage. The government has announced a flood emergency in Swat and Nowshehra because the Kabul River has a very high flood and the Sindh government declared Sehwan a calamity-hit though the provincial government had already declared 23 districts of Sindh a calamity-hit.
The Sindh government is said to have provided people with basic needs, while people have complained of not being assisted.
Utam Das, Mokhi Hindu Community, Naushahro Feroze, speaks with The Rise News that the local administration has neglected the Hindu community in the district. It has not dewatered areas that have the majority of Hindus as they are clearing other areas.
“We provide food and evacuate people regardless of religion,” says Utam. Hindu community people live in the open sky. They do not ask the government to give them food, but they ask for tents. Flood-affected people said that the government should be available in remote areas and give food and tents to them. Many houses are damaged and submerged in water. The provincial government has asked for 1 million tents.
In Badin, the Hindu community has the same complaints, as the local government is not available. Leela Raam, the activist, said that the government was not present on the ground as people were helping each another. ‘Neither government nor nonprofit organizations are on the ground in Badin.’
