Karachi: Ajay Lalwani, he was receiving threats from unknown numbers, Dilip Kumar who is Ajay Lalwani’s father said, he never gave up on his aim of voicing to voiceless.
Ajay Lalwani was murdered by unknown on 18th March, 2021 at Saleh Pat, small city of Sukkur district, Sindh.
Uknown shot him when he was sitting inside the barber shop. Ajay was brave despite having been shot, he phoned to his father who reached on the spot, and took him to Sukkur hospital.
The police were informed that motorcycle and car of which had no number plates, unknown were driving in the area. The police did not pay attention to it. Later, Ajay Lalwani was shot by unknown who found roaming in car.
Moreover, the police were reluctant to register the case. “Journalists helped us file the case. Police were not ready to file First Information Report,” Mr. Kumar says; “The police have not cooperated with us, yet.”
Ajay’s family members seen saying on local TV channels, “Why you [referred to killers] opened fire on our son – you could have kidnapped him or threatened, but you should not have killed him.”
“My son was brave, he managed to speak with us despite three bullets hit him,” says Mr. Kumar. He wondered what happened to his son while the doctors had confirmed that Ajay was out of dangerous. At 5:00am, the family was informed that Ajay was no more.
Journalists and Journalists’ community demand the investigation into the case:
Journalist community held protests in the province and asked provincial government PPP to hold fair investigation into the case and killers must be brought to the justice.
Steven Butler, CPJ’s Asia program coordinator said, “Police in Sindh province must waste no time investigating the killing of journalist Ajay Lalwani and apprehending those responsible.”
Who threatened Ajay Lalwani:
When asked to Mr. Kumar who was threatening Ajay if he had information regarding threats. He said that once Ajay shared with him that person, threatening him, pretended to be police officer; and warned him that “How dare you to speak about Irfan case? You are castigating our Boss.”
Irfan Jatoi was kidnapped on 10th February, 2021, and later, found dead on 8th March. Irfan was reported to have been murdered by the police in an encounter.
Sindh government and its ministers have not contacted the family who lost son and the journalist community lost its journalist.
Parents were worried about the role of local police and authorities that did not look serious about solving the case. They family demanded fair investigation into the case that would help them arrest the culprits.
“We will never give up on the case and will definitely reach the killer,” says Dilip Kumar.
