Saleh Pat: Ajay Lalwani, journalist was murdered at Saleh Pat, Sukkur district, the province Sindh on Thursday, March 18, 2021.
According to locals: Ajay was sitting inside the Babar shop when killers came and opened fires on him. The police are doing nothing in the case of Ajay Lalwani. The suspects are at large.
In Sindh, this is second murder of journalist Ajay Lalwani in Sukkur – last year, Aziz Memon was found dead in Mehrabpur.
Person who did not want to be named, spoke to The Rise News that Ajay Lalwani had been receiving threats because of his vocal voice against brutality of the police. He had raised voice for Irfan Jatoi who was murdered in fake encounter.
It is first incident of target killing at Saleh Pat. Source said that family was unwilling to speak about the case due to fear. “The avoid further harming their family as they already lost their son Ajay.” It means an influential person is involved in killing.”
Local journalists are raising the voice for justice whereas journalists at national level are silent.
Jai Parkash, senior journalist and president at Hyderabad Union of Journalists said that Hyderabad Union of Journalists had condemned the killing of Ajay Lalwani. They were on the point of holding protest against killing of Ajay and would make a demand for the justice.
To a question on why majority of journalists remained silent on Ajay’s killing, he responded that there might be two reasons: first, Ajay Lalwani’s case had not been reported at national media, and second, it was not their priority. It showed, which were actual journalists’ union and struggling for journalist.
Meanwhile, Sindh government has not issued statement about the case of Ajay, yet.
